Today in the "Kick Off Your Shoes with..." interview series we get to know the beautiful and talented Christina aka Christinatron from YouTube! Christina started doing makeup videos about 5 months ago and I'm so glad I came across her channel when I did. She has a great vintage/retro style and does really great celebrity inspired looks as well as her own. Her videos also include fun tags, hauls and reviews.
ICM: At what age did you discover make-up and start wearing makeup and what did you wear at first?
C: I was about 15 when I started wearing makeup. For a long time all I would really wear was foundation, blush, and lipgloss.
ICM: What made you really get into make-up (wearing and/or collecting)?
C: I didn't start really getting into makeup until I started watching Youtube videos. A lot of gurus such as xsparkage, sarahvictor, and monroemisfitmakeup really inspired me to start experimenting more with my makeup.
ICM: What role did or does the YT beauty community play into your love of make-up?
C: I like to watch a lot of review and haul videos because it helps me decide what products would be good for me to purchase and what not to buy. Saves me money in the end!
ICM: Did you start out with drugstore makeup first? If yes what was the first brand(s) you remember using?
C: Yes, one of the first drugstore brands I remember using was CoverGirl.
ICM: Who’s your favorite Drag Queen?
C: Hmm..I don't really have one but if I had to pick I guess it would be RuPaul lol.
ICM: What was the first brand of high end makeup you ever remember using?
C: My mom had a lot of makeup I would play around with. One of the first things I remember using was a blush by Chanel. I loved the color so much!
ICM: What are your staple items, the ones you can’t live without and have replaced at least once if not more?
C: MAC Studio Fix, MAC Pink Swoon blush, Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil, MAC Fix+, MAC Mascara X and Carmex!
ICM: Brett Michaels or Dee Snyder and why?
C: Brett Michaels because Poison rules!
ICM: Any makeup or skincare tips or tricks that you’d like to share?
C: Always moisturize your face with a face cream specifically designed for your skin type. Keeping your skin hydrated is extremely important to the health and well-being of your skin.
ICM: What would you say to someone who is just getting into makeup to help him or her get started on the right foot?
C: Invest in a good set of brushes! You don't have to go out and buy them at all once. Just buy one or two a month and your collection will grow over time. Great brushes are key to flawless makeup application.
ICM: What do you do for a living and how does makeup play a role in that if any?
C: I'm an Army wife/homemaker lol. I like to do makeup when I have any free time.
ICM: If you had to label your makeup style what would you call it?
C: Modern/Retro.
ICM: Where do you get your inspiration for looks?
C: I like to pull inspiration from my favorite actresses of the 1940's-50's such as Judy Garland, Rita Hayworth, Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe.
ICM: Was or is there a specific genre of music that influenced your makeup style?
C: Rockabilly and psychobilly music really influenced my makeup style. The women of those genres look so glamorous and I've always loved that.
ICM: What is your favorite “go to” look if you have little time but don’t want to run out the door with a naked face?
C: For eyes I like to just use Woodwinked by MAC and some mascara. Then for lips I'll use a MAC Slimshine lipstick in Bare. They are both neutral but beautiful colors!
ICM: Why did you start making videos on YT and or start a blog?
C: I loved watching makeup tutorials on YT for a long time and it looked like so much fun! So one day I just decided to make a video of my own and I got such positive feedback on it that I kept making more. I'm really glad that I made a YT channel because I have met some really great people through it!
ICM: Looking back, what are some things you wish someone would have told you before you jumped into the makeup addiction?
C: I wish someone would have told me how addicting MAC is and how big of a hole it would burn in my pocket!
ICM: What is your favorite color?
C: Black and purple
ICM: What is your favorite type of food or your favorite dish?
C: My favorite thing to eat is Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken.
ICM: What other hobbies do you have?
C: I really love to cook and watch old movies. TCM is the best channel for that!
ICM: What is your favorite 80s movie?
C: Oh wow..I can't just pick one! My top 3 are Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles and Weird Science.
ICM: What is the best brand or type of make up that will last through the “walk of shame”?
C: MAC or Makeup Forever
ICM: What is your favorite online store(s) for beauty products or deals?
C: I like shopping at Cherryculture, Sephora and Macpro
ICM: Who is your favorite comedian?
C: Adam Sandler and Dane Cook
ICM: Anything else you’d like to share with the readers?
C: Remember that makeup has no rules. Wear what you like and show it off!
